Roos Youths (Open Rules)


Tailor made for players of all abilities and aspirations, AFL Youth caters to teenage boys aged from 13 to 18.

An ideal progression from either AFL Auskick or AFL Juniors, AFL Youths provides boys with the opportunity to play in a graded competition within a club environment.

Fun, fast and skilful, AFL Youths is chance for boys to play football with their mates and establish new friendships, with a distinct focus on team building.

AFL Youths caters for boys in schools years 8-12 (aged 13 to 18 years)

Ages 13-14

Ages 15-18

By ages 15-18 the full Laws of Australian Football are applied and boys will play the same brand of football they see being played at the elite level. It is at this stage that talented youth players may be identified to participate in the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program, the pathway for elite teenage footballers with aspirations of joining the AFL.

This is achieved through skill activities and programs for individuals, small groups and teams, and aims to assist development of personal and social skills.


In Youths your child will be training 2 nights a week for 1-1.5 hours (usually Tuesdays & Thursdays between 5 and 6:30 pm however this is dependant on coach availability)

Pre-season training will usually start at the end of February/beginning of March, with full training starting in April. All players will be notified of the time and venue by their respective coaches or managers.


Fixtured games are played on a Sunday. The earliest start time will be around 10:30 am games run for approximately 1.75 hours including breaks (4 x 20 min quarters)


Mouthguards need to be worn to all training sessions and and games for Year 3's upwards

A no mouthguard no play rules apply. The club will look to organise a mouthguard fitting evening prior to the start of the season.

Protective Equipment (Helmets Gloves etc)

All protective equipment including helmets and gloves require formal written approval from the District. Please contact the Registrar to arrange the required permits.

Playing Up or Playing Down a Year

Play Up and Play Down requests must be submitted in writing to the Registrar in order to receive formal approval from the District.


All players will need to wear Roos club shorts and Royal Blue and White hooped socks for game days. A Roos jumper will be provided for each game.

Mt Lawley Inglewood Roos Junior Football Club is an AFL Kids First and AFL Quality Certified Club with a focus on fun and enjoyment.

The club accepts KidSport vouchers for payment of fees.
